Write to your Councillors

Do you have five minutes to help Save Iona Street?

When the formal planning application is submitted on the Edinburgh City Council website, you will be able to submit any formal objections via the planning portal. We will notify our Facebook page and email list when it’s live.

In the meantime, you can still make a difference. Now is a good time for the community to make known its general objections to demolishing Thornbridge Timberyard and building yet another high-rise student accommodation block with limited affordable housing.

You can do this by contacting those councillors who sit on the planning committee. Please try and find time to send them your opinions and remember, they work for the community. Don’t worry about writing a formal letter, you can express yourself however you want.

Below you will find contact details and, if you need some help getting started, a template you can fill out and send. You can also see a list of objections on our homepage.

Template for writing to Councillors on the Planning Committee

Dear Councillor [INSERT NAME],

I would like to express my deep concern over the pre-planning application by Manson Planning (19/03802/PAN) to demolish Thornbridge Woodmill on 48-50 Iona Street and build a housing development.

[Introduce yourself here, for example:] As a local resident, I am writing to you in your capacity as a public servant to express my serious objections to this proposal on a number of grounds:

[List what you object to here]

[List of what you want to see here, for example: I would like to see a smaller scale development that is sympathetic to the local area. Specifically, the development should be no taller than three stories high. The development should have a greater proportion social housing and contribute to local services e.g. by integrating a GP surgery.]

I hope you consider this and other correspondence when assessing the formal plans that will be lodged by Manson Planning and I hope that the council will ask that they are amended.

Regards,

[YOUR NAME]
